A service of holy communion is held at Bignor on the fourth Sunday of each month at 10am. There is no special provision for children, but they are very welcome. If you live in the area or are just visiting, please do come along and join us for a service and for coffee afterwards. Click here for a map and churchwarden contact details. There is much of interest for visitors, both in the church and in the surrounding countryside. The church is open during the hours of daylight.
Bignor is a classic small Downland hamlet within 6 miles of the ancient Sussex towns of Arundel, Petworth and Pulborough. It is noted for its picturesque Downland scenery, an important Roman Villa on the historic Stane Street and the grade I stone-built medieval Holy Cross church.
The church at Bignor is mentioned in the Domesday Book, the font and simple chancel arch being a remnant of the 11th century, although the church was entirely rebuilt in the 13th century. The nave is lofty with cathedral-like proportions for such a small church and as such the acoustics are very good making the church a suitable venue for concerts, talks, poetry readings and other events.
